The Preying Rabbit arc is Kitty Pride's second arc, telling the story of how Mai found his real father Magus and was trained to hunt.

Detailled scenario

Mai reunites with Magus

A week after Nermal kidnaps Gatto, Mai arrives in Wolftown and finds his father in a town hotel and asks if he can accompany him, Magus refuses at first. Mai encounters doubt and anxiety, which have no use now that the hunt for feelings is over, and they manage to convince Magus to take Mai with him.

Magus and Mai gathers provisions

Magus trains Mai briefly to magic in the wolftown forest, then Magus decides to stop by the suburbs to stock up on supplies. The suburb is infested with kobolds who kidnap wolves to feed Nermal, and Magus orders Mai to get rid of them and eat them, but Mai refuses.

After defeating the kobolds, Mai stumbles upon Joly in the city, Magus intervenes to attack her, but Joly sends him flying two miles in a single blow and leaves Mai on his own.

Magus and Mai spend the night in the suburbs, and Mai protects Magus from a kobold attack.

Magus trains Mai against bears

The next day, Magus takes Mai to the prey village just outside Wolftown, but the town is infested with bears sent by Nermal to punish Magus for not chasing Joly. In the village, Mai confronts one of these bears and miraculously manages to defeat it alone, but Magus still considers him weak, as he didn't dare eat the bear after killing it.

Mai hides in a cave

Mai really starts to get hurt that Magus never once acknowledges his efforts, and argues with him that evening, Magus kicks him out and Mai finally spends the night in a cave, with a wild pigrita.

Mai leaves Magus behind

The next day, as Magus prepares to continue Mai's training, anxiety and then doubt attack him, as the bears did, to punish Magus for not chasing Joly, but Mai defends him each time. Until RockLiger arrives, and knocks Magus out of the fight with a single blow.

Mai sets off to rescue Magus, who has fallen into a waterfall, but faced with Magus's ingratitude, Mai decides to abandon him to his fate and leave.

Mai saves Gatto's group from Nermal

After leaving Magus, Mai sets off to the Wool crater to convince Nermal to stop trying to force Magus to kill Joly, he enters the cave through a different entrance from the one taken by Drake, Gatto and Bakura ten days earlier and encounters many kobolds working hard for Nermal, and SkullCat too.

He eventually stumbles across Bakura, who, since Drake's death, has been imprisoned by Nermal and SkullCat and hasn't gotten over it. As the two of them leave the prison to try and find Nermal, they are interrupted by SkullCat, who tells them that Nermal is forcing Magus to go after Joly just for fun. Mai and Bakura defeat SkullCat with ease, thanks to Mai's acceleration power. But Nermal arrives, decides to return Drake to the group with the idea that Magus will run into Mai surrounded by another family and go berserk, then leaves the cave.
