Mai Coccolo is a rabbit, the son of Magus Marthym and Borealis Coccolo, and adopted son of Joly Biggs. He is the main character of the Preying Rabbit arc, in which he reunites with his father and lives with him for a few days.

Distinctive traits

Curious kid

Mai is a studious student at school, and is naturally curious about all things scientific. He loves studying stars and magic in particular, and reads lots of scientific books, so he knew RockLiger in advance and knew everything about her when he met her.

Wants to find his real family

Mai wants to find out who his real family is, because he's not at ease with predators, and once he finally meets Magus he constantly pushes himself to not disappoint him.

Relationships

Drake Biggs

Mai is Drake's half-brother, they were both raised by Joly. Mai is relatively indifferent to Drake, while Drake tries to protect Mai as if he were his own son, because of his importance to Joly.

Joly Biggs

Mai loves his mother and feels protected when she appears in Wolftown while he's alone with Magus, but he's also constantly afraid of her because of his rabbit instinct, especially when they eat together and he gets a glimpse of her teeth. This discomfort bothered Mai so much that he ended up leaving her home to find his real parents. Initially, he wanted to find his father to join his real parents and eventually leave Joly, but by staying with Magus, who is a horrible father, he decided instead that he had to eat meat to stop being afraid of wolves.

When Joly died, Mai remained indifferent and surprised himself, but thought it was logical afterward.

Bakura Fragola

Mai and Bakura both have a violent father, Bakura with Nao and Mai with Magus. Like with many people, Mai is indifferent to Bakura and only speaks to her when she starts a conversation, while Bakura is very invested in Mai's relationship with his father, and sincerely hopes that he's doing better now that he's separated from Magus.

Magus Marthym

Mai wanted to find his father Magus but was continually disappointed when he met him. Magus doesn't care about Mai's well-being and is violent with him because he can't stand the fact that Mai was raised by Joly, he repeatedly wants to force him to eat meat so that he becomes stronger and can survive in a society dominated by carnivores, which Mai thinks is against nature. Without eating meat, Mai constantly pushes himself to impress his father, but it's no use, Magus just hates him. Mai eventually rejects Magus and defeats him, this time as an enemy.

Nermal

Mai initially had a rather good opinion of Nermal, since he had been kind to him by sending him to his father when Mai asked him to, but as his journey with Magus progressed, they came across people sent by Nermal to force Magus to kill Joly, which annoyed him greatly, and he ended up wanting to confront Nermal himself so that he would stop interfering in his family affairs.

Borealis Coccolo

After Joly's death, Mai was curious to know who his real mother was and whether she would be better than Magus as a parent. Borealis was very kind to Mai without knowing that he was her son, Mai upon realizing that his real mother was actually a good person decided to look after her instead of Joly, who was doing it in secret until now.
